The Americans are proud of the Alva Skateboards
Tony Alva was born in Santa Monica California in 1957. As a kid, he had passion for surfing, skateboarding, and rock- n-roll. At the age of 11 he got his first skateboard and surfboard and learned how to ride both of them. In 1972 he became one of the legendary Z-Boys skateboarding team together with Stacy Peralta and Jay Adams. Later in 1977 Alva won the Men’s World Overall Professional Skateboard Championship.
In the same year Tony Alva started his own skateboarding company called Alva Skates. It was the first company in the history of the US, which was started and owned by a skateboarder himself. Tony Alva was the first among the other manufacturers who started to use layered maple ply wood in making skateboards. Since that time the Alva Skateboards company has been flourishing offering some of the best decks ever made.
Now the company is widely known and respected both by young riders and the older generation. In 2005 Tony Alva opened two new skateboarding shops in Southern California. The Alva skateboards pro team has gathered really famous skaters, such as Christian Hosoi, Mark Gonzalez, Eddie Reategui, John Thomas, Craig Johnson, Bill Danforth, Jim Murphy, and others.
Tony Alva is considered to be a legend of the skateboarding, and so are his skateboards. The decks made by his company are widely known all around the world by riders of different ages. Good quality decks, truly rock-n-roll designs, strong skateboarding spirit – this is what made the brand “Alva” so popular.
The boards by Alva skateboards are also valued as vintage boards for the diversity of their designs. The collectors, who miss the times when they were riders, usually look out for Alva Leopard deck, as the first example of punk graphics.
Young riders tend to go for something fresh and fashionable, but sometimes it is really wise to choose classics. Alva is classic.
